Don’t Miss Out! TRICARE Open Season Ends in a Few Days

If you have not already done so, now is the time to review your own and your family members’ current health plans and decide what options are best for you and your family. Don’t forget, outside of a qualifying life event, TRICARE Open Season is the only time you can enroll in or change your health plan for next year. Dec. 12 is the last day you can make health plan changes. For more information, visit TRICARE’s Open Season page.

Open Season does not apply to TRICARE Retired Reserve, TRICARE Reserve Select and TRICARE Young Adult (which may be purchased year-round) or TRICARE For Life (as there is no enrollment).

TRICARE Open Season Choices

If you’re eligible to take part in TRICARE Open Season, you have three choices:

  • Stay in your plan
  • Change plans
  • Enroll in a plan

Enrollment and plan changes can be done online, via mail or fax, or by telephone and go into effect on Jan. 1, 2024.

Federal Benefits Open Season

In addition to TRICARE, eligible beneficiaries can also enroll in or make changes to Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) vision and dental plans.

Visit www.benefeds.com/general/uniformed-services for more information. Remember, the FEDVIP Open Season ends on Dec. 11, which is one day shorter than TRICARE Open Season.

How to Access Urgent Care

Illness and injury can occur at any time. Fortunately, urgent care is a convenient way to get the care you may need for minor health issues when your primary care manager (PCM) is unavailable. Urgent care should be considered for health care concerns that do not threaten life, limb or eyesight, but need attention to prevent serious risks to your health.

Follow these steps if you need urgent care:

  1. Call your PCM or family doctor.
  2. If your PCM or family doctor cannot provide care on the day you call, you will be directed to use a local network urgent care provider, if medically appropriate.
  3. Visit our Network Provider Directory or Telehealth Options page to locate an urgent care provider. When using the directory, type in your ZIP code and under “Specialty” select “Urgent Care Center” or “Convenient Care Clinic”.

While urgent care can take care of minor health concerns, if you think you or a loved one is experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
