Permanent Change of Station? Steps for a Smooth Transition

Tuesday, June 27, 2023

When it comes to moving due to a permanent change of station (PCS), Health Net Federal Services, LLC (HNFS) understands the importance of continuity in applied behavior analysis (ABA) services. Whether you are moving within the West Region or moving to a different region (East or Overseas), we can help provide a smooth transition when notified in advance. Please take a moment to review the following steps.

Moving Within the West Region

  1. As soon as you know where you are moving to and when: Contact our Autism Care Demonstration (ACD) customer service team to inform them about your move date and new location.
  2. Within two weeks of your move date: Contact your Autism Services Navigator (ASN), or our ACD customer service team if you don’t have an assigned ASN, to begin the provider placement process in your new area.
  3. Immediately after moving: Update your address in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS)! Once your new location shows in DEERS, HNFS can review and adjust authorizations so you can begin receiving services in your new area.

Moving to a Different TRICARE Region (East or Overseas)

  1. As soon as you know where you are moving to and when: Contact our ACD customer service team to inform them about your move date and new location. You will also need to request the transfer of ABA-related documents, such as the ABA referral, treatment plan, and any related assessments. Allow for 10 business days for this request.
  2. Within two weeks of your move date: Contact your ASN, or our ACD customer service team if you don’t have an assigned ASN, to begin the provider placement process in your new area. If you were assigned an ASN, you will remain eligible for one as long as you still meet eligibility requirements. Your current ASN will contact your new region to initiate a warm transfer and coordination of care for 30 days during the transition period. If you’re not eligible for an ASN, you may still be eligible for case management services to assist throughout the moving process.
  3. Immediately after moving: Update your address in DEERS and transfer your enrollment! You can transfer your enrollment online, by mail or by phone. While you have 90 days to do this, the sooner you transfer your enrollment, the sooner your new contractor can authorize care.
  4. Once you show in DEERS as enrolled in your new region: Your child must get a new initial assessment for ABA services. Although your new contractor will honor valid referrals from your prior region that authorize initial assessments, your child must get a new initial assessment in the new region. Your new regional contractor must verify your TRICARE enrollment shows in DEERS as transferred to the new region and that you meet all ACD requirements before ongoing care can be approved.

We offer these details on our “Autism Care Demonstration: Moving” page.
