What Is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease?

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, refers to a group of diseases that cause airflow blockage and breathing–related problems. It includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. COPD makes breathing difficult for the 16 million Americans diagnosed with this disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that millions more suffer from COPD but have not been diagnosed. Although there is no cure for COPD, there is treatment.

The CDC website provides a great COPD overview: Basics About COPD.

Our Disease Management (DM) team consists of registered respiratory therapists and nurses who are experienced in COPD management and ready to work with you.

Our COPD DM program is open to West Region beneficiaries ages 18–64.
