Be Aware of Veterans Choice Program Telephone Scam

Friday, November 10, 2017

Please be aware of a telephone scam affecting veterans trying to reach the Veterans Choice Program (VCP) phone line. A mimic phone line has been set up by an unknown party that may be intended to reach veterans who inadvertently dial “1-800” instead of “1-866” when trying to reach the 1-866-606-8198 VCP phone line. Please review the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Phone Line Imposter Fact Sheet for details.

Health Net Federal Services, LLC (HNFS) is also aware some veterans have received calls from this mimic phone line, where the caller claims to be from HNFS.

  • Callers who reach this mimic line are offered a $100 rebate if they provide credit card information.
  • The mimic phone line does not announce callers have reached the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs or the VCP phone line.

Please remember … when calling the VCP phone line or when receiving an appointment scheduling call from HNFS, veterans will never be asked to provide credit card information over the phone.

The Veteran Health Affairs Office of Community has reported the issue to the VA Office of Inspector General for possible civil or criminal investigation.
